Explore the art and process of kiln-cast glass during Translating Form to Glass: Casting Essentials at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Open to all skill levels, this hands-on workshop introduces participants to the foundational techniques needed to transform an original form into a finished glass sculpture.
Students will experiment with a variety of modeling materials to discover how different textures, surfaces, and structures translate into cast glass. The workshop will guide participants through each step of the casting process, including model building, plaster moldmaking, kiln loading and programming, divesting, basic color application, and cold-working techniques.
In addition to individual projects, students will collaborate on a group sculpture by combining multiple components into a single cast glass work. Participants will also explore techniques involving inclusions and reinvestment.
By the end of the workshop, students will leave with a completed cast glass artwork, test studies, and practical skills to continue exploring glass casting independently.
