The Island, which is located in the heart of Pigeon Forge, will be open to the public Friday, June 21st. The Island will feature retail stores, restaurants and a 200 foot observations wheel. The 22 – acre development will open Phase 1 Friday and will feature businesses such Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon, Timberwood Grill, Mellow Mushroom along with The Island Trading Post and The Great Smoky Mountain Gift Shop. Phase 2 of the development is set to open in 2014 and feature a 2.7 million fountain along with a 132 room four star hotel. The main focal point of the island is the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. The wheel gives riders a panoramic view of the Smoky Mountains in a gondola that seats 6-8 guests and is climate controlled. The ride itself is 20 minutes and lights up at night with over 1 million in LED lights. Come out and experience the newest adventure in Pigeon Forge.
