A unique and beautiful feature throughout East Tennessee are the barns that can be found throughout the area. Some can be found on a busy highway that used to be a country road while others are tucked away and not easily visible. What all the barns have in common is that they have a story to tell. Many of the barns have been refurbished and open to the public for special events such as weddings. The Barn at Chestnut Springs is one that has a history dating back to the 50’s and is currently being used today. When the barn was built in 1954, the intent was to use the land to harvest tobacco. The land was owned by a couple who’s daughter is a famous singer, actress and philanthropist today. Yes, this person is Dolly Parton. Dolly’s parents owned the land all the way into the 1980’s and from then to 2007 went unused until its current owners bought it in 2007. When the owners purchased the land it was their intent to build cabins while not knowing what to do with the barn. After suggestions from friends and locals who were aware of its history, they decided to refurbish the barn, use it for events and not build the cabins. New footings and beams were installed along with insulation, new flooring while modern amenities were installed. An unique characteristic of the barns structure is where the owners got the wood. Instead of going to the local home improvement store and buying lumber, they got wood from barns that were either being torn down or from those that were unusable. When at the barn your eyes are immediately drawn to the high ceilings and the elegant touches throughout the property. The Barn at Chestnut Springs is full of rich history and the perfect place to celebrate that special occasion. The barn is located off Pittman Center road which makes you forget that you are minutes from Pigeon Forge at 1984 Chestnut Springs Way Sevierville, TN 37876.
