Smoky Mountain River Rat, is thrilled to celebrate its 25th season of helping guests paddle, splash and play in Mother Nature’s Water Parks! Be sure to head to Townsend, TN, on May 4th to help kick off the 2019 tubing season at Main Tubing Outpost. All tubing trips will be scheduled with weather and water levels permitting.
History
River Rat first began offering tubing in the Smokies in 1995. Shannon Skidmore and soon-to-be-wife Shannan had just graduated from East Tennessee State University. They opened with just six weeks left in the summer in a 20 x 20 building, an old ’76 Chevy Van, and 50 tubes.
Today, River Rat has grown to include two outposts in Townsend and a whitewater rafting outpost in Hartford, TN. Whitewater Rafting is available in Hartford on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, during the summer season. Tubing is available seven days a week, May through Labor Day. This activity is a must- do for locals and visitors to the Smoky Mountains!
“We are thankful to our loyal customers throughout our journey. It is an honor to share in so many summer memories,” say the Skidmores.
