Despite the way they’re often portrayed in the movies, cowboys aren’t just gun-slinging outlaws in search of a main-street showdown. In fact, you can tap into the fun side of the cowboy lifestyle at the 13th Annual Saddle Up! event, taking place February 21 through 24 at a number of local venues.
This Pigeon Forge special event showcases a variety of cowboy-style entertainment and cultural activities, including storytelling, music concerts, a chuck wagon cook-off, a dance and Cowboy Church. One new addition for 2013 is Capturing the Old West, a photography exhibit and video presentation by award-winning Smoky Mountain photographer Ken Jenkins.
Some of the scheduled events and activities are free, while others require the purchase of a ticket. Discounted rates on accommodations are being offered by some participating lodging providers.
The all-star lineup of performers includes award-winning poets, fiddlers and yodelers such Chris Isaacs, Waddie Mitchell, Dave Stamey, Sourdough Slim, and Wylie & the Wild West. Hosting the events are Pigeon Forge restaurants, shops and music theaters such as Old
Mill Square, Mama’s Farmhouse restaurant, the Partridge & Pear restaurant, Smoky Mountain Guitars, Stages West and Grand Majestic Theater.
