History of Rafting in The Smokies

White water rafting is a great day trip for the kids

The Pigeon River wasn’t always a hotspot for whitewater rafting in the Smoky Mountains. Before tourists began enjoying the rapids, making memories, and vacation planning to explore the river, it was just nature’s beauty with much potential! Although hiking and driving through the mountains is calming and breathtaking, be sure to explore all the ways to love the Smokies!

Did You Know?

It wasn’t until 1978 that Rafting in The Smokies pioneered the river and made it into an attraction. We also have them to thank for a few of the rapids names we get float through! How cool?! It was back then when the idea arose to train guides and have them lead adventures on the river for tourists to love! If you have ever rafting with Rafting in the Smokies, you’ll know that they strive for excellence and uphold their missions.
