The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will open at midnight Wednesday, Oct. 16 and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, unless the government shutdown is not ended during that time. According to a recent report on WATE-TV, an agreement was reached today between Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory.
Tennessee will cover 80 percent of the cost in the form of a 0,400 tourism grant to Sevier County with both Sevier and Blount Counties funding the remaining $60,100 to fully fund the operation of the park for five days. Governor McCrory stated that North Carolina will pay $75,000 to open its side of the park.
It’s getting really pretty here in our beautiful mountains, so take advantage of this opportunity and come play with us this weekend! Happy Fall Y’all!
