Get ready for an adrenaline-packed event as the Gatlinburg Recreation Department presents the Spring Trout Tournament and River Cleanup for its second consecutive year! Scheduled for Saturday, April 1, this tournament promises excitement and environmental stewardship rolled into one unforgettable experience.

Kickstarting the opening weekend for catch and keep fishing in Gatlinburg waters, the tournament will be headquartered at Gatlinburg’s picturesque Mynatt Park. But this isn’t your average fishing contest – it’s a chance to give back to nature and ensure pristine fishing grounds for years to come.

Gatlinburg Trout Facility Manager Travis Williams emphasizes the importance of clean waters and surroundings for anglers, placing a special emphasis on litter cleanup along the river and below the tree line.

In a unique twist, participants will trade their entry fee for a small grocery bag filled with litter collected from the area. This not only ensures eligibility for fishing prizes but also contributes to a cleaner environment.

Prizes will be awarded for various categories including the largest fish caught, most litter collected, and even the most unique litter item found! With separate divisions for adults (16 and up) and kids (15 and under), there’s something for everyone to reel in.

Pre-registration is already underway, so secure your spot by reaching out to Travis Williams via email or Facebook. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this thrilling event – register by 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, or sign up on the day of the event at Mynatt Park.

Fishing kicks off at 7 a.m., with weigh-ins happening until 11 a.m. at Mynatt Park. Remember, fishing must take place in designated Gatlinburg managed waters, so be sure to follow all local and state regulations.
