February 17 – March 5, 2026
Open to All Skill Levels | Ages 16+
Medium: Sculpture, Clay
Overview
Take on the exciting challenge of large-scale ceramics in this hands-on handbuilding workshop. Students will learn essential techniques such as coil and slab building while creating either a small stool or a side table. The class will focus on strong, efficient construction methods that keep larger pieces sturdy without unnecessary weight.
Participants will also learn how to properly manage the drying process of a large-scale ceramic piece, from initial build through bone-dry stage and preparation for bisque firing. Surface decoration techniques will be explored using underglaze, with instruction on creating patterns like grids and stripes. Finished pieces will receive a clear low-fire glaze, and alternative finishing options will also be discussed.
