Chase the Big Bear with Dollywood’s New Ride

Get ready to chase the legendary predator of Wildwood Grove this spring when Dollywood opens their new ride, Big Bear Mountain.

What’s So Special About Big Bear Mountain?

Big Bear Mountain will be the largest roller coaster in Dollywood yet. This ride is the largest single-attraction investment $25 million poured into it. Each coaster train is designed to look like a four-wheel-drive SUV, including working headlights and taillights, and each car will have an on-board radio. This is a first for Dollywood coasters. This ride is also extra special because it will be the longest ride in the park at 3,990 feet. Needless to say, this is surpassing all of the current Dollywood coasters.

What’s the Story?

As Dollywood visitors know, every roller coaster needs a good story. The Blazing Fury tells the story of a town on fire. Mystery Mine focuses on old folktales of never whistling in caves and to run when you see birds in the mines. So what’s the story with Big Bear Mountain? Well, according to legend, Big Bear has been roaming around Wildwood Grove for its whole history. No one has spotted him, but he leaves signs among the grove. Wildwood Grove’s resident wilderness explorer, Ned Oakley, takes guests on an adventure to find Big Bear.

Big Bear Mountain Ride Details

It never hurts to do some prior research before trying out a new ride, so here are all the details you need to know about Big Bear Mountain. The ride is a steel coaster that reaches a maximum speed of 48mph, and the maximum height of the coaster is 66 feet. Each train can hold 20 passengers, and passengers must be at least 39 inches tall to ride. Within 1 minute and 40 seconds, riders experience three launches, two twisted airtime hills, two tunnel pass-throughs (one under a waterfall!), a high speed helix, a high speed carousel turn, a twisted camelback, and multiple bunny hops. This ride will be perfect for visitors who want to be part of a great adventure. Dollywood will open on March 10, 2023.
